Schools battle it out as AITC hosts the Albion Cup

Schools battle it out as AITC hosts the Albion Cup

Eight schools in Sussex were invited to compete in the Albion Cup at the Triangle Leisure Centre in Burgess Hill.

Every year, primary schools across Sussex are invited to compete in the Albion Cup.

The Albion Cup provides an opportunity for pupils of SEND schools, units, and colleges to take part in a fun and inclusive football tournament, with six-a-side matches between squads of up to nine players.

This edition of the Albion Cup was open to teams of both boys and girls from Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) units in mainstream schools.

Eight Sussex schools sent teams to compete in the Albion Cup:

  • West Park CE Primary School
  • Cornfield School
  • Muntham House School
  • Harbour Primary
  • Palatine School
  • Central Hub Brighton
  • St Nicolas & St Mary CE Primary School
  • Brantridge School

Teams took part in a competitive football tournament, which was refereed by members of the Brighton & Hove Albion men’s academy scholars.

Every participant received a medal at the end of the day, and the winning team was presented with the coveted Albion Cup trophy. One student from each school also received a fair play certificate as reward for their good behaviour.

Hayley, Disability Development Officer at AITC, runs the Albion Cup.

Hayley was pleased to see another successful Albion Cup: “The Albion Cup today has been a big success. All of the kids have had an amazing time, and we’ve seen some really good football on display today.

“It’s important to get kids playing in a competitive format like this. It’s really fun, it gets them moving, and makes the day one they’ll never forget.”
