Disability Football Appeal - Albion in the Community

Will you support our disability football appeal this Autumn?

We have launched an urgent disability football appeal to help get our powerchair participants back to football following Covid-19. Will you donate £20 to help us to keep local people active?

Why we need your help?

The past 18 months have been tough for us all. Sadly, many of our footballers with a disability are still feeling the effects of the pandemic with many yet to return to our disability football sessions.

Covid-19 has created many challenges for our footballers including anxiety, changes in routines and access to equipment. For our powerchair sessions, that support individuals with life-limiting disabilities, the return is even more difficult as some of our powerchairs are no longer suitable due to lack of use.

Lily is one such player who did not return when sessions first restarted in May. Lily is 13 years old and has Spina Bifida, a condition that affects the spinal cord. Albion in the Community’s bi-monthly powerchair football sessions keep Lily healthy, build her confidence and provide her with independence. They also give much-needed respite to her mum, Lisa.

Thankfully, Lily returned to her powerchair sessions last month, but sadly many of her teammates still have not. To support Lily’s teammates back and to make the sessions the best they can be, we urgently need to replace the redundant powerchairs.

How you can help

Our appeal needs to raise £12,600 to purchase three new powerchairs to help our players to be active again and ensure they have the best sessions to return to. You can help people like Lily by donating £30 here.

We want all our players back to playing as soon as possible, but at the very least by the end of the year, so if you can, please support us today with a gift.

Where will my money go?

All funds raised by the appeal will help our powerchair football sessions, supporting them to purchase new powerchairs. Should we be fortunate to raise more money than we need, donations will also support our wider disability football programmes, ensuring all our footballers have access to the best sessions available post Covid-19.
