Blue and White Day raises £10,000 for Albion in the Community

Blue and White Day raises £10,000 for Albion in the Community

Albion in the Community’s (AITC) Blue and White Day celebration raised more than £10,000 for the charity.

Sussex turned blue and white last Friday, with businesses, schools, and Brighton & Hove Albion fans responding to AITC’s calls for people to wear blue and white for the day in return for a small donation.

More than 40 businesses and schools took part, including Gap Solutions, DMH Stallard, Brighton & Hove Buses, Patcham High School, Durrington High School, West Blatchington Primary School, and St Nicolas Primary School, where hundreds of pupils performed a dance which they have choreographed to Sussex by the Sea.

Money is still being donated, but so far AITC has received more than £10,000 – topping last year’s total of £7,500.

That money will now help fund AITC’s football sessions for people with disability, helping hundreds of people enjoy the sport they love who may not otherwise have had the chance to.

Matt Dorn, chief executive officer at AITC, was delighted with the total. He said: “We’re absolutely overwhelmed by the support we received on Blue and White Day.

“To raise more than £10,000 in one day is absolutely fantastic and will make a real difference to the people we work with.

“We currently deliver 30 different regular football sessions for people with a disability, with each one costing between £2,500 and £5,000 a year to run, so raising such a brilliant total on Blue and White Day will have a big impact on the charity.

“Thank you to everyone who took part. We really do appreciate your support.”

Fans who would like to support Blue and White Day can still do so by texting BWDAY to 70085 to give £3.
