Albion in the Community is fundraising at today’s game

Brighton & Hove Albion fans heading to today’s game with Norwich City are being asked to bring a donation for Albion in the Community (AITC).

AITC is currently fundraising for £15,000 to help lease a wheelchair-accessible minibus for the next three seasons.

It will be used by the charity’s national and regional disability football teams, including Brighton & Hove Albion Powerchair FC, Brighton & Hove Albion Amputee FC and Brighton & Hove Albion Cerebral Palsy FC.

The new minibus will cost around £30,000 but the good news for AITC and its players is that a generous long-term supporter of the charity has offered to match every pound raised by AITC’s Get us to the Match campaign – leaving the charity with a £15,000 fundraising target.

A sell-out crowd is expected at the American Express Community Stadium for today’s game and the match has been designated as an AITC takeover day.

A bucket collection will be taking place outside the stadium before and after the Championship game and supporters will also be given the chance to try a disability football challenge in Fanzone in the lead up to kick-off.

Fans will get the chance to try out the Albion’s new virtual reality experience if they visit AITC’s minibus in Fanzone.

Volunteers from the charity will also be handing out sweets from the recent episode of The Apprentice, with fans encouraged to make a small donation in return.

Money raised from Saturday’s bucket collection will go towards the charity’s minibus appeal and the overall cost of running AITC’s disability football programme.

Paul Brackley, AITC’s disability manager, said: “It costs around £5,000 a year to run one of our weekly sessions for young people with a disability so every penny donated on Saturday will make a real difference.

“If every Albion fan donated just £1 we could get the new minibus and fund three of our sessions for an entire year.”
