A supermarket has donated £500 to Albion in the Community (AITC) after customers voted to support the charity’s work.

The Asda store in Hollingbury regularly asks shoppers to vote for the charity they want to receive a donation by giving them a token at the tills which can then placed in one of three plastic containers on the way out.

Customers have three charities to choose from and at the end of the vote the good cause with the most tokens is given £500.

AITC is the latest recipient and Asda’s Maria Carpenter recently visited the Seagulls’ American Express Community Stadium to present a cheque.

She said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to help AITC by making this donation. We are the nearest supermarket to the stadium and a lot of our colleagues are Albion fans – not to mention our customers.

“The work that AITC does in the local community is fantastic and we are only too pleased to help.”

Steph Punfield, AITC’c community fundraising executive, said: “As a charity we rely heavily on the generosity of our supporters and we are very grateful to Asda, the shop’s staff and its customers for choosing to help our work.”
