Commissioned by NHS Brighton and Hove Clinical Commissioning Group and local Public Health, the programme is designed to promote awareness of the early signs and symptoms of each cancer with a major emphasis on the importance of early diagnosis and treatment, as well as relevant screening programmes and stop smoking services.
We work with a team of volunteers, attending a range of local events and giving talks to community groups and in workplaces across the city.
The project is targeted at people living and working in the areas of highest deprivation, where rates of cancer are often at their highest. Last season our Speak Up Against Cancer team met face-to-face with more than 9,000 people.
We also received backing from a number of Albion players, including Beram Kayal, while a matchday collection saw fans donate almost 200 hats which were then distributed to local homeless people to help protect them against the sun.
