This week is the 10th annual National Apprenticeship Week and over the coming days Albion in the Community’s (AITC) website will be focusing each day on one of the apprentices currently working with the charity.

Between AITC and Brighton & Hove Albion there are currently 11 apprentices working at the American Express Community Stadium (pictured above with Vicky Franklin, AITC’s apprenticeship and employability manager, front right).

In fact, AITC is now one of the largest providers of apprenticeship opportunities in Sussex – with 47 apprentices currently working with, or being trained by, the charity.

Apprenticeships are government-funded programmes designed to support new and existing employees with training and qualifications linked to their job role. The idea is that they help young people develop skills while gaining experience in their chosen career.

Typically, apprentices will work around 30 hours – including time spent studying towards a nationally-accredited qualification, such as an NVQ or diploma. Placements last on average between 12 and 15 months.

The further education department at AITC offers a wide range of apprenticeship opportunities for people aged between 16 and 24 who are not in full-time education.

As well as in-house apprenticeships the charity also works with a growing number of local organisations and businesses to recruit candidates for placements within a variety of industries, including PE and school sport, leisure management, business administration and customer service.

For more information on AITC’s current apprenticeship opportunities call 01273 878260 or email: vicky.franklin@albioninthecommunity.org.uk.
